- Repousee (from the French word to push) is the process of shaping and forming a raised design by tapping the back of the metal to push the design forward. In India a brass or bronze shallow mould is often made for popular designs. It depicts a negative of the design. Then a thin sheet of metal is tapped over the mold until the desired shape appears on the other side of the sheet of silver.
