- Catlinite also known as Pipestone, is a relatively soft stone found mostly in the Pipestone National Monument in Minnesota.
- Native Americans valued it for making pipes, and later also beads. It's named after George Catlin a 19th century explorer and artist who document Native American culture in great detail
