The name, chalcedony has been traced to an ancient Greek town in Turkey called Chalkedon. As early as the Bronze Age (3300-1200 BC) in the eastern Mediterranean lands chalcedony was popular for seals and jewelry. Soon it was also traded along the Central Asian routes where these beads were found.
