These, and all lost wax cast beads, are initially shaped out of filaments of wax. Each wax bead is individually coated in clay, dried and then fired to let the wax melt out through holes in the clay left for this purpose. Molten brass is then poured into the clay mold. Once it has cooled each mold is broken to release one unique bead. Since the molds can only be used once, no two beads are alike. Grinding removes any extra brass spurs and polishing completes the laborious process.
