It would push some of the original glass out of the way. Then a different color of glass was carefully sifted into the small holes. When the beads were fused these would appear as vertical stripes \u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eI call these Level 2 powderglass beads and I did witness this process being done in the early 1970s in Ghana. Spots also started appearing on powderglass beads at this time, but I didn't see that being done.
