- Antique Venetian Gooseberry beads from the African trade 5mm diameter
- One 24-inch strand in excellent condition
- Made from the 1600s to early 1900s in Venice, Italy
- Although it's hard to see in the photo these are starting to get a pinkish tinge from prolonged sun exposure
- Widely traded in the Americas, as well as Africa and other places
- Not to be confused with replicas or new Indonesian striped beads of various colors now also being called "gooseberry"
- The real beads often had a greenish tinge and resembled actual gooseberries
