Description
- Vintage, Long oval signed Kathleen Dustin bead featuring 2 odalisque figures reclining in swirling psychedelic waves or fields of flowers. 55x17mm
- The term odalisque comes from the Turkish odalik which translates directly as chambermaid, but in Western art the term seems to refer to nude or semi-nude concubines or harem women, often in enticing poses.
- Inspired by her time living in such exotic places as Turkey and Saudi Arabia, Kathleen translated the art and adornment of those regions into Fimo, the new material taking the US by storm in the early 1980s. She invented many of the techniques required and continues to create and teach at the highest level.
- Kathleen always paid special attention to faces and even at the tiny scale in this bead, the faces have true expressions.
