Description
- Rare use of amber & green chevron canes applied parallel to the hole in the bead
- You can see what the cross section of the cane looks like at the left end of the image or by looking at the ends of the bead. This does seem like a waste of cane, but presumably they make had his reasons.
- It looks like the cane was ground down to expose different layers of color.
- Most bold is the red and black eight pointed star from a different cane embedded 4 times in the center of the bead.
- This is another example from my "rare beads" collection looking for a new home.
- Made in Venice, Italy for the African trade, mid- to late 1800s
