Molded Vintage Czech Glass (Porsser) Beads, Red, 6mm on 23-inch Strand
AFS-187
- Round 6mm opaque red-orange vintage Czech glass beads, on 23-inch strand
- In Africa these are sometimes used to imitate coral
- The equatorial band on these beads identifies them a Prosser beads
- The molded bead-making technique was invented by the button-making Prosser bothers in 1830's in Bohemia (now Czech Republic) and named after them.
- Great quantities of Prosser beads were made for the African trade
- I heard a few decades ago that the Prosser factory had been dismantled and moved to Morocco, but I haven't been able to confirm that.
