Silver "hamsa" or "khamsa" amuletic pendant, 50mm wide by 60 mm tall
Worn by both women and men among the Tuareg
They were originally made of 5 diamond shapes of white shell on leather, more recently the design has been reproduced in silver
The 5 diamonds represent the five fingers of a hand, thus the name "hamsa" or hand (aka hand of god or hand of Fatima) popular throughout the Middle East and North Africa
The amulet is thought to be particularly helpful against the evil eye, or envy of others.
