Mini Moroccan silver Agadez crosses, just 32mm long
The central circle represents a salamander's eye and the etching around the edge, a jackal's tracks. These symbols add power and cunning to the cross's other protective qualities.
The Tuareg are members of the larger Imazighen (Berber) group, the original inhabitants of North Africa.
Niello technique has been used to darken the engraved decoration, but the stamped central circle appears only half formed in this example
