Moroccan silver and ebony Tuareg barckekeia style cross with layered silver and ebony on the bottom tip.
Tuareg crosses were originally worn my men, and passed down from father to son, but this style is particularly popular with women from Agadez to the Hausa further south.
These crosses are considered to be powerful amulets, but can also be used as a form of currency to buy cattle, cloth or grain in times of need, which comes all too often in the deserts of North Africa.
The Tuareg are members of the larger Imazighen (Berber) group, the original inhabitants of North Africa.
