John (1946-2020)was a much-loved presence at bead, rock, and gem shows throughout the west in the 1990s and early 2000s, where he demonstrated and sold his work
John had joined the Peace Corps in 1968, and subsequently served in Africa as a Peace Corps trainer for 12 years, and then with USAID and the United Nations for an additional 20 years.
Returning to the US upon retirement John started his unique stone bead and pendant carving business.
Influenced by ancient African beads, he used simple tools and specialized in organic shapes with high quality, and/or unusual, stones.
His beads and pendants work equally well incorporated into beaded necklaces or worn on a simple leather cord. He always made the holes large enough for leather with men in mind, and they were great fans of his work, as were many of us who felt his good energy transmitted through his art.
