Collector set of 7 beads from a vintage Yemeni black coral and silver prayer strand, includes all the sizes represented on the strand plus the central elongated bead. This is called the "guru" on Hindu strands, I haven't been able to find the name for it on an Islamic prayer strand

Generally I don't break up prayer strands, but this one was incomplete when it came to me, so I've created smaller sets of beads to make them available to people who are interested, but don't want a full strand. I've included as a secondary image, what the strand looks like before I cut it.
The larger the beads, the more rare and valuable they are
Black coral was traditionally used for medicinal and ritual purposes in Indonesia, China and Hawaii. More recently it has been popular for jewelry and prayer beads. For these purposes it is best if the beads are frequently worn or handled to keep them from drying out and cracking.
Black coral is not yet listed as endangered, but poaching has been a problem. The greater threat, however, is global warming.
