Description

  • This is not exactly a millefiori (1000 flowers) trade bead, but it isn't lampworked either. It's what we call a crumb, or end of day bead. That's when a bead core is rolled over the multicolored crumbs of glass left on the workbench at the end of the day. The semi-molten core picks them up like a lint roller gathers dust.
  • These, however, have also collected or received a few scattered murrini and that's what got it into the Millefiori section of this website
  • The experts putting together the Bead Timeline exhibit at the Bead Museum in Washington, DC thought these beads were important enough to be included so maybe some of you collectors will like them too.
  • Made in Venice, Italy early 1800s for the African trade
  • From the collection of Joyce Diamanti, bead researcher, writer and educator
