- The tree peony was considered to be the “king of flowers” and associated with the imperial family. It’s known as a flower or “wealth and honor” and was traditionally a token of love and sometimes also exchanged as farewell gifts.
- Chinese blue and white porcelain has been made for more than 1000 years.
- The color comes from cobalt oxide pigment, one of the few that can withstand the high firing temperatures required for porcelain
- The decoration has traditionally been applied by hand, but today stenciling is also used
- Exported Chinese porcelain influenced ceramic styles in both the Middle East and Europe and remains popular around the world today.
