Description
- Antique 34-inch strand of Gond beads from Odisha (formerly Orissa) state in India.
- It includes 28 collared faceted oval beads, some of them 5-sided. The centerpiece is a smooth 4 sided oval without collar that resembles ASM-1076. There are also 4 buttons, used here as pendants and possibly part of a missing clasp. All of the above are interspersed with classic Gond mini brass beads about 3-4mm diameter, worn irregularly smooth with decades of use.
- The Gond are Adivasi (original inhabitants) of India who maintained their culture long after the rest of India became for influenced by Britain and the west,
- Gond jewelry is highly collectible and hard to find these days. I recently acquired a collection from the late 1970s and early 1980s that has been in storage for 40 years. This necklace was part of that collection
