- These beads are priced and sold by the set of 2
- Two distinct styles of spiral wound heavy beads, each 3 inches long, one 11mm diameter at center the other 14mm at center.
- Collected by Joyce Diamanti in Orisha (formerly Orissa) State in India during the time she lived in Calcutta in the early 1980s.
- I don't know for sure that these are Gond beads, but they were definitely from an Adisavi (original inhabitants, formerly known as "tribal") group in that state.
- They are made of heavy brass, slightly domed strips, which remind me of material heavy duty springs might be made of. I'm quite sure this metal, which must have been very hard to manipulate, was originally milled for a mechanical or industrial purpose. The Gond, or other makers, turned it into art.
- These beads are likely to go mostly to collectors, but I'm sure there are also some great designers who will know just what to do with them. You know who you are!
