- 24-inch strand of Gond bronze beads including 8 very attractive smoothly tapering ovals 8x44mm long and collared ovals 9x34mm long
- These collared beads may have been cast, the longer smooth ovals look like they were forged. Both styles then drilled with relatively small holes, making them quite heavy. The age of these beads is hard to tell because bronze is so durable and less likely to show wear, but they were old when I bought them 40 years ago.
- The Gond are descendants of the original inhabitants of India, now called Adivasi, and these beads are from a group that lived in Odisha (formerly known as Orissa) state in India. They maintained their separate rural lifestyle longer that others, but in the 1980s began adopting more mainstream Indian dress and adornment. That's when their beads started showing up in Delhi markets where I first found them.
