Description
- Vintage, or older, Indian silver necklace of two styles of large, collared, lightweight melon beads and smaller round beads.
- Largest beads 28x24mm, round beads 12mm diameter, cone shape terminal beads 45mm long, plus 6 inches of chain and small clasp
- The beads show the seams where the two halves were soldered together and also some dings from their long life and far travels, but the silver retains a warm glow and these beads have the distinct advantage of being lightweight.
- Unlike the very large and heavy antique silver beads (ASM 1090 to ASM-1093) which would have belonged to the most affluent members of Indian society, this necklace, made of much lighter beads formed from silver sheet, would have been treasured ornament for a woman from a rural agricultural area. I bought it from a Punjabi pendant dealer, but he said it wasn't from there.
