Description

  • Small  version of a Turkoman clasp component made into a pendant 56mm wide
  • This came with another pendant (ASF-397) that might have been it's pair when they were two sides of a clasp (see second image)
  • In this piece, as in ASF-397, the hook and the eye of the clasp have been removed and two rings attached to the back for stringing. See third image which is of another pair, but with the same two rings on the back as this piece.
  • It could also be strung by connecting beads to any of the openings at the top
  • Antique originals (like ASF-304) were covered with auspicious engraved symbols relating to fertility, rows of stylized rams horns along the top edges, and studded with antique "eye" cut carnelians that have been believed for millennia to protect from bleeding, wounds and miscarriages. In this newer version the designs are simplified and eye shaped cabochon might be glass.
