Description
- Dark peacock pearl "dancers" 5x6mmmm on 16-inch strand
- Dark blue-grey color with violet highlights
- "Dancers" are oval pearls drilled through one end of the long dimension so that they hang like mini pendants on the strand where they move aka dance.
- For a lighter version see GMA-377
- The name peacock references the shimmering colors of a peacocks tail. In the case of pearls it can range from a light blue tinged silver with coppery highlights, as in the case of this strand, to a quite dark purplish grey with multicolor highlights
- Pearls are formed inside bivalves (similar to oysters), which coat any foreign substance that gets inside their shell with a smooth layer of pearly nacre to eliminate the irritation and this coating of grows over time increasing the pearl's luster. The color is influenced by minerals in the water.
- The Chinese cultured some pearls in the 12th or 13th century, but the Japanese developed it into an industry in the 1890s, inserting mother-of-pearl beads as the basis of their cultured Pearls.
