Description

  • These beads are prices and sold in sets of 4.
  • They are very irregular, but I will try to pick 4 that are similar as possible
  • Very large, very irregular white baroque pearls, 22-30mm long and at least 15mm wide. They seem to be drilled through the long dimension.
  • Pat tells me these were very popular in the Falls Church store when a local celebrity made earrings out of them. To join that trend, or to create your own uinque jewelry, you're unlikely to find any pearls more distinctive than these.
  • Pearls are formed inside bivalves (similar to oysters), which coat any foreign substance that gets inside their shell with a smooth layer of pearly nacre to eliminate the irritation. This coating grows over time increasing the pearl's luster and size. The color is influenced by minerals in the water.
  • The Chinese cultured some pearls in the 12th or 13th century, but the Japanese developed it into an industry in the 1890s, inserting mother-of-pearl beads as the basis of their cultured pearls.
