- The gem's name comes from the Greek for it's rosy color, but some of the best specimens from South America have been called Inca Rose.
- Rhodochrosite often forms around near hydrothermal activity, where superheated water circulates through veins in the rocks. Examples include the Sweet Home Mine in Colorado, Capillitas in Argentina and the N'Chwanig mines in South Africa.
