Description
- Ancient Chinese cobalt blue glass ehr-tang (aka ear spools or capstan beads)
- These are from the Han Dynasty (c. 200 BC - 200 AD) and samples have been found in 11 Chinese provinces according to Robert Liu's article in Ornament Magazine Vol 19, No 1 (Autumn 1995)
- Sadly not much else is known about these beads, or earrings, even how they were worn. Frankly I have my doubts about their wearability. I don't think Chinese ladies were known for having huge holes in their earsl.
- The ends of these spools are 10mm diameter, think about that for a minute...
- Wearable or not, they are pretty enough that they graced the cover of the above mentioned issue of Ornament Magazine, which happens to be the same issue that featured our Tysons Corner Beadazzled Store shortly after it opened.
- I received this pair in a barter arrangement long ago and have not been able to find any comparable items to guide my pricing. I'm more interested in showing them off than selling them so I'm pricing them high. Enjoy looking...
