- Mario Dei Rossi was a glass master, or "maestro" who worked in some of the most famous glass factories of Venice before turning his attention to his long-time fascination with mosaic glass.
- He eventually adopted the cold composition or bundled-cane method for assembling detailed images with very thin glass canes. Once fused, slices known as murrine, are cut from the canes
