Description
- Silver tone Hamsa pendant aka Hand of Fatima or Hand of Miriam
- Decorated with stars and moon designs on both sides, 55mm long with bail
- A nicely made pendant, background is antiqued to make the designs stand out
- Although this basic human symbol for warding off the evil eye may predate both Judaism and Islam it has close associations with both.
- These amulets originated with Judaism, the Hebrew work "hamesh" relates to the five fingers, or possible the 5 books of the Torah. It is also sometimes called Hand of Miriam, after Moses' sister.
- In Islam it's called the Hand of Fatima in honor of one of Mohammed's daughters, and the five fingers are said to recall the 5 Pillars of Islam
- Versions of it can be found in Hinduism, Christianity and Buddhism as well.
- Amulets ward off evil or other forms of negativity, while talismans attract beneficial energy and power. The Hamsa is credited with performing both functions: repelling evil and attracting good fortune and happiness wherever it is worn or displayed.
- The bail is openable so it can be attached to existing necklaces
