Description
- Very special gau box made by Tibetan refugees in Nepal. The elaborate filligree decoration on the front is set with emeralds and rubies as well as a window to the interior of the box, where a seated Buddha raises a hand in blessing.
- The back is likewise decorated with a ruby and two emeralds
- Gua boxes began, and continue to serve, as protective amulets. They were first used in Tibet but have spread throughout the Himalayan region, embraced by Buddhists and Hindus alike.
