Description
- This graduated, high-graded strand of red and white on black "rattlesnake" beads was created for on of our Feb 2026 eblast images. It's slightly graduated and the beads range in size form 8x10 to 12x13mm
- Condition is overall very good, with just 2 that are heavily damaged
- Wavy lampworked lines of red and white glass wind around the black cores.
- In Africa we used to call them "wave" beads, but in the mountain US they picked up the "rattlesnake" as their "campfire name"
- Made in Venice, italy primarily for the African trade, but they've also been found in the US archeological record and among heirloom beads in southeast Asia. They seem to have had a very long run from at least the early 1800s through early 1900s
- For individually beads of this type or small sets, watch the "sets & eaches" sub-category or our African Beads Collection.
