- Tomato red antique Chinese glass beads 15 to 18mm diameter on 30 inch strand
- There are two types of beads on this strand. The 8 larger, and more oblate shaped beads, have white cores. This is not surprising because early red glass recipes called for gold in the mix. However, these beads are not translucent like "white hearts" that have white cores not only to save on red glass, but also to bounce the light back out through translucent ruby layer.
- The rest of the beads on this strand are solid red, although not 100% opaque, the effect is somewhat like the antique "greasy" seed beads that were sold in the 1800s.
- I believe these are Chinese, but probably made in the early 1900s, later than ASG-446 or ASG-447.
- These might have been made for the Tibetan market to substitute for large coral beads.
