- Pier is the multi-talented daughter of Peter Voulkos famous for his ceramic sculptures and for starting the ceramics department at the Los Angeles art Institute, and my alma mater UC Berkeley.
- Pier began teaching ceramics but also had a career as a dancer, specifically tango.
- She discovered Fimo in a German toy store in 1971 but didn't start making beads with it until 1978. During the 1980s she was a pioneer in the field of Polymer Clay art developing many of her own techniques because it was a new medium for jewelry at that time.
