Description
- Another find from my trip to the Thai-Cambodian border in 1992. I'm not sure where it's from, although I bought it from an Akha woman, they and most "Hill Tribe people" seem to prefer silver and/or colorful glass beads.
- I don't even know what it is, possibly a bronze belt, although I've seen them re-worked into stunning necklaces. They were reasonably plentiful in the late 1980s and early 1990s but rare now.
- Add it to your collection, or replace the old cotton cord running through these disks with a colorful silky cord to get the effect. The discs slide over each other, articulating to form any curve, flexing easily and smoothly.
- Alternately you could dismantle it and use the individual components (there are about 54 of them) in your own necklace or earring designs.
- The copper component is clear in this bronze belt, giving it a warm glow
- The individual discs appear to be made by very fine lost wax casting
