  • Ancient Islamic glass horned eye bead (aka raised eye bead) 9x18mm
  • Red base with 9 "eyes" built up in 3 to 4 layers of white and black glass
  • The Islamic Period of glass bead-making has traditionally been somewhat overlooked and many beads of that period and origin have been mis-identified as Roman. I've fallen for this myself and am just now realizing it. 
  • On the other hand, the lines really are blurred since some of the same techniques were being practiced in the same places under Roman rule and then subsequently as Islam spread into these areas. They just kept on making beads. And we just keep on loving them and loving to learn about them!
