The beads have wooden plugs inside the bone and the hole is drilled through the wood. The plugs can be revmoved if you want huge hole beads
Also note that the plugs sometimes slip out if not held in place by neighboring beads, usually they can put pressed back into place, but it's best to use large flat beads or rondells on either side of these beads when stringing with them
