Description
- These beads are priced and sold as a set of 5
- 3 Large (15x24mm) solid orange "lightbulb" beads with orange "agate glass" bead and one orange and white mix. Some "agate glass" mixes were more successful than others in imitating the natural banding of agate stone beads
- They are components from a vintage African "Wedding Bead Necklace" See: AFT-171 for example.
- Made in Bohemia (now Czech Republic) during the 1800s to early 1900s
- Traded to Africa where they became especially popular among the Fulani of Mali.
- I've heard two stories about why they are called Wedding beads: a) they are passed from mother to daughter at the latter's marriage, b) they are worn by drummers who perform at Fulani weddings.
