Description
- These beads are priced and sold as a set of 5
- They are components from an African "Wedding Bead Necklace" See: AFT-171 for example.
- This set includes 5 small lightbulbs 11x15mm, 2 yellow "agate", 1 yellow-orange agate and two green agate. The agate style uses 2 or more colors to simulate, more or less, the natural bands in stone agates out of which such beads were originally made.
- Made in Bohemia (now Czech Republic) during the 1800s to early 1900s
- Traded to Africa where they became especially popular among the Fulani of Mali.
- I've heard two stories about why they are called Wedding beads: a) they are passed from mother to daughter at the latter's marriage, b) they are worn by drummers who perform at Fulani weddings.
