Description
- Rare vintage Yoruba beads from Nigeria, 22-inch strand of 23 beads, each about 22-24mm by 9-10mm, gold plated a few decades ago
- Very distinctive work characterized by fine granulation, highly unusual in brass.
- This strand is very good condition. Far more often these hollow strands are covered with dents. This shape seems more durable than most.
- Although Yoruba metalwork thrived in other forms, before and after these were made in the 1950s, this granulated style seems to have vanished at about the same time African colonies began asserting their Independence in 1960.
