Description
- This short strand includes some 3x4mm antique cylindrical beads and a variety of cornerless cubes mostly aobut 5x5mm with various degrees of wear.
- Gond brass, being old is remarkably pure without the inclusions that give more recent recycled brass beads uneven color. In its natural state Gond brass as a soft satiny brass/bronze color. When polished shines up like gold.
- This 12 inch strand of brass beads contains at least some antique Gond beads along with some newer ones. I know they are at least vintage because they came from a collection with other Gond beads that had been in storage for 40 years.
- The Gond, are descended from some of India's earliest inhabitants (aka Adivasi) and maintained their rural traditions through British rule and beyond. In the the 1980s, however, they began adopting more mainstream Indian adornment and clothing and their wonderful brass beads started showing up in the Delhi markets, which is where I first fell in love with these beads. I like them because their color, texture and especially their aged shapes give a taste of antiquity to anything I designs with them.
