Description
- This 24-inch strand consists of antique bronze rings about 9-10mm diameter, each with a 4-5mm ball attached, packed tightly together with a glass beads at each end. One is an opaque Turquoise glass "Padre" trade bead, the other is translucent aqua of a similar shape, possibly Chinese "Peking Glass"
- On close inspection the little balls look as if they might have been meant to resemble tiny bells. Through ages of wear the seams on them have been smoothed down, Another theory based on the name sometimes used for these strands "Seed Pod Beads" indicates that maybe the balls were meant to represent seeds.
- I will hunt for more info as soon as I can and share it here.
- They are found mostly in Thailand although some have cropped up in India, whether traded in ancient time or more recently is unclear.
- They make and vibrant effect packed together but quickly get heavy.
- This is a collector strand, but if you want to try out a few of these beads, see ASM-1150. Or for a longer strand see: ASM-1082
