Description
- Necklace, or other adornment, of deep red threads and two sets of antique Chinese coil beads
- In different tones of white to milky glass and translucent to opaque turquoises, the coils are separated into one group about 1.5 inches long and another almost 3 inches long. Three of the shorter section consist of a single coil, while on is in two parts. The longer sections are all composed of multiple pieces.
- Coil beads are among the oldest Chinese glass beads. The earliest are dated to the Song Dynasty 960 to 1279.
- I found this in northern Thailand in 1992. I can't make a direct connection, but the red tassels remind me of some Akha adornments for weddings or festivals
- According to Google the specific colors of Chinese glass in this ornament were made 1850-1910, this was also a time when Akha people were moving south out of China into Thailand so there may be a connection. I welcome any further info about these beads
