Early flat oval bead wrapped with two colors of blue dichroic glass
Artist unknown, possibly Paula Radke
Dichroic glass is made by layering multiple layers of thin metal oxides on glass. These layers cause some wavelengths of light to be reflected while others are transmitted resulting in the color changes we see.
It has a variety of decorative, architectural, and scientific uses including protecting spacecraft instruments.
