Description
- Rare teal color of Dogon Donuts, aka annular (ring) shaped beads 10-12mm diameter. This lot is equivalent to 12 inches when strung. There are several "twins" two beads stuck together and even a triplet (3 beads stuck together)
- These beads are a little thicker 5mm, as opposed to the usual (3mm) for most annular beads. Could they be a transition between annular and wound round beads?
- Made in Dutch bead workshops for the African trade 1700-1900s Traded by both Ducth and Portuguese traders along the West African coast
- Named for the Dogon people of Mali who favor them, but they are also found in other parts of West Africa
- From the collection of Joyce Diamanti, bead researcher, writer and educator
