Indian water buffalo horn beads, dyed amber, 8mm diameter
17.5-inch lightweight strands
Natural horn is usually grey to black, and is traditionally dyed a dark cranberry red or amber color. The black may also be dyed for uniformity - as are the water buffalo themselves - especially for festivals :) Hair dye is the popular choice for the animals, not sure if it's also what they use on the beads.
All three colors passed the nail polish test, so the dye is good quality and won't bleed
Fast Fact: Why do smaller handmade beads cost the same per strand as larger ones? There are more of them! The smaller the bead, the more it takes to fill the strand. Material costs might be slightly lower, but labor costs are higher, and the smaller the bead the harder it is to carve and drill it.
