Labradorite is named after the Labrador Peninsula in Canada where it was first found in 1770, although it didn't become widely popular until centuries later.
Then, as now, it's prized for its "fire" (aka labradorescense), which gives off intermittent flashes of blue, green, gold or other colors depending on the light.
It's found in Canada, Madagascar, Mexico, Russia and the USA
