  • This contemporary-looking lapis, pearl and sterling silver was designed in the late 1980s to early 1990s by highly respected Indian silversmith Rajinder Singh.
  • Now vintage, it dates from a time when both Indians, and especially those exporting jewelry from India, were looking for fresh designs, sometimes incorporating old traditional components, or as in this case, made with non-traditional materials in contemporary shapes.
  • Harry Neufeld explains: "The antique, and ethnic Indian silver jewelry export  business needed to be refreshed after some years, so new jewelry with new silver, new designs and new stones became the new silver jewelry business from India. While everyone else in the old ivory jewelry business accepted white metal findings on their pieces, which was inexpensive, I was the only importer using only silver, and he (Rajinder Singh) was the only designer making pieces other than just recycled bangles with pin clasps."
