- Antique Venetian millefiori trade bead, huge elbow 60x16mm
- Bright red bands separate bands of "end-of-day" crumbs in this extra large bead
- The idea is that at the end of a long day of millefiori bead-making, the leftover murrine would be lined up and picked up by semi-molten bead cores resulting in beads with a wide range of different murrine.
- In this case either they were using the last leftover crumbs or they ground up the remaining broke murrine. I admit that I didn't at first appreciate these beads but it seems like they have quite a following and can command price as high or higher than regular elbows, because of their rarity
- Made in Venice, italy for the African trade, mid-1800s to early 1900s
