Description
- These beads are priced and sold individually 42x12mm
- An unusual, and possibly wasteful, way to use the canes murrini is made of, but possibly the canes were damaged, or maybe this was just an experiment.
- Rather than slicing off cross sections of the cane and applying them all over the bead, 4 lengths of cane are laid down parallel to the perforation to cover the bead. All we see is the outside of the canes, one blue and one red.
- I've arranged them in the image so you can see what the cross sections would have looked like.
- Made in Venice, Italy for the African trade, probably late 1800s or early 1900s
- From the collection of Joyce Diamanti, bead researcher, writer and educator
