Due to their age these beads have a semi-matte patina, that along with their more muted colors, works well with other African beads. My biggest problem when I started making jewelry with African trade beads in the early 70s was that I hadn't bought enough small African beads to go with them, and new spacer beads were much too bright. Later I made sure to buy plenty of small ones. The prices are going up as the become rarer, but they are worth it!
This molded bead-making technique was invented by the Prosser bothers in 1830's in Bohemia (now Czech Republic) and named after them.
Great quantities of Prosser beads were made for the African trade
