- Large Moroccan Tuareg silver Agadez cross, 5 inche long on beaded cord
- This example has nice etching (although not nielloed), antique silver beads on the beaded cord, and some letters/symbols on the back.
- Tuareg crosses were originally worn my men, and passed down from father to son, but today women wear them too. The Agadez style is worn as far west as Mali.
- They are considered to be powerful amulets, but can be used as a form of currency to buy cattle, cloth or grain in times of need, which comes all too often in the deserts of North Africa.
- The Tuareg are members of the larger Imazighen (Berber) group, the original inhabitants of North Africa.
