- The silver bail that suspends the donut is finely etched with geometric designs typical of traditional Tuareg silversmithing. The donuts are new, see below.

- The Tuareg are a traditionally nomadic Amazigh (Berber) people who once traveled freely around the Sahara. National borders have gotten in the way, and climate change has forced many to settle. The society was highly stratified, but also being matrilineal, women hold positions of authority both in the family and the culture.
